It may still be August, but Halloween candy is already out in stores, and horror and science fiction movies are ranking at the box office. This weekend, “The Final Destination” debuted at #1, pulling in $28.3 million; Rob Zombie’s “Halloween II” took the #3 spot with $17.4 million; and sleeper sci-fi hit “District 9” held on to the #4 spot, earning a grand total of $90.8 million since its Aug. 14 premiere. We’re not quite ready for summer to be over, but sometimes a good scare (and some high of 69 degree weather in Chicago today) is all you need to kick-start your autumn. Happy apple picking, just a bit early.
